West End Musicals - Saturday 11th May
Westcliff High School for Boys
We go together!
Once again we settled in for a fabulous evening at the musicals. From Guys and Dolls to We Will Rock You, the chorale and band set the tempo for the audience, who were only too happy to provide their own percussive accompaniment!
Joining us were the newly elected Mayor, Councillor John Lamb and his wife Mrs Pat Lamb, appointed Mayoress of the borough in what was their first public engagement, although they enjoyed the music so much that the nerves were forgotten!
With fantastic support from Glenys, Alex and the band, the choir guided everyone through a stellar selection of popular musical entertainment from Mamma Mia to Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Featuring in house soloists and our very own trio who took us to the "Little Shop of Horrors", this was another night of foot stomping entertainment enjoyed by all.
Concert of Remebrance - November 11th 2018
A gala concert of remembrance to commemorate the centenary. Featuring Eastwood Chorale, Southend Bach Choir, Southend Choral Society and Southend Festival Chorus.
Also featuring Guest conductor Grace Rossiter with the Southend Symphony Orchestra.
Carmina Burana - Saturday 28th
Most recently we performed our gala concert with Southend Choral Society which featured popular works by romantic composers.
Firstly From the Bavarian Highlands by Elgar. A set of six choral songs as a remembrance of holidaying in Upper Bavaria. Hopefully this joyous spirit was conveyed to our audience!
Also featured were the wonderful talents of our soloists (Tenor John Pierce, Baritone James Williams and Soprano Elizabeth Dunlop).
The most notable part of the evening however was the rousing work Carmina Burana by Orff, which provided a dramatic and captivating finale to the evenings proceedings.
A French Affair - Saturday 7th October
We returned to Westcliff High School for Boys to sing a firm favourite, the Faure Requiem, as part of an evening of French music. Featuring some wonderful soloists, the piece was lifted to a glorious sound and was a joy to sing and be heard.
Our male soloists (Tenor John Pierce, Baritone James Williams) treated us to a stunning performance of the Pearl Fishers duet and equally stunning were the ladies soloists (Soprano Elizabeth Dunlop, Alto Claire Filer) rendition of the Flower Duet. An absolute joy to behold!
Also featured was an accomplished and breathtaking flute solo performed by Alex Wood
We then performed a lesser known work, the Opus 54 requiem by Camille Saint-Saens. A dramatic and beautiful work which added even more character and flavour to an already rich programme.
Attended by the mayor Cllr Fay Evans and our patron MP Sir David Amess, this was indeed another wonderful occasion to remember.
Best of British - Saturday 13th May
Our most recent concert was a revisiting of "Best of British" and was again a very popular and rousing hit for Eastwood Chorale. As well as a varied selection of light British music, ranging from madrigals to the Beatles, we also visited the proms for our own performance of the Fantasia on
British Sea Songs by Henry Wood.
The audience were again invited to sing with us on certain favourites including I Vow to thee my Country and Jerusalem, as well as being invited to join the Fantasia to (attempt) to sing along with Jack the Lad (with an encore no less!). Also featuring in the programme was a selection from Bob Chilcott which included a beautiful version of a new Chorale favourite, The Lily and the Rose.
Such a wonderful, vibrant evening for all showcasing the joy, emotion and vibrancy that British music gifts to us.
The performance was attended by the newly elected Mayor, Counsellor Fay Evans.
West End Musicals - Saturday 8th October 2016
What a night!
A packed house joined us for a fabulous evening at the musicals. From Phantom to Mamma Mia, the chorale were well into the swing of things, with the audience even providing some accompaniment of their own!.
Proving to be one of our most popular events, the deputy mayor herself was quoted as saying “she felt transported to the West End”.
With great support from our fantastic band, the choir guided everyone through a stellar selection of popular musical entertainment from We Will Rock You to Miss Saigon.
Featuring in house soloists and our very own Bella Acapella quartet who took us “Over the Rainbow”, this was a night of thrilling live entertainment not to be missed.
Verdi Requiem - Saturday 7th May 2016
Quote from our Patron Sir David Amess MP;
"It was as always quite outstanding....The four soloists were wonderful, the choir magical and the orchestra splendid. You certainly did Verdi’s Requiem proud."
We were delighted to join Southend Choral Society, led by Musical Director Roger Humphrey, in a grand performance of the Verdi Requiem. With nearing 130 singers, 50 orchestra and 4 fantastic soloists, this was one of our most exciting and triumphant occasions to date.
We think all involved and the audience agreed that it was certainly an evening to remember.
Christmas 2015
Recently we performed two wonderful Christmas concerts for the local community. This year we had our always popular carols (including fabulous audience participation) but also featuring highlights from Handels Messiah. Not to mention the backing of our fantastic little band, our very own Bella A Capella group and soloists. Fun and mince pies for all!
The Creation
A Sacred Oratorio by J. Haydn
Our patron Sir David Amess MP said "I thought it was brilliant. The soloists were stunning, the orchestra was brilliant and the choir was wonderful.....congratulations"
Saturday 10th October 2015 at 7.45pm at Westcliff High School for Boys. The Creation takes us through the six days it took God to do his work and into the seventh, when Adam and Eve take time to marvel at their new home. What a wonderful and dramatic piece, gathered together by our excellent soloists, orchestra and of course, choir. A very thrilling and well received night of sensational music.
An Evening of Gilbert & Sullivan (with soloists and orchestra)
Saturday 9th May 2015 at 7.45pm at Westcliff High School for Boys. The work of Gilbert & Sullivan is first and foremost a recipe for fun. This event was no exception. Our feedback from the audience was as good as we have ever received. So for the audience, the choir, our soloists and the orchestra, this was arguably our best collaboration to date.
